ANNOUNCEMENT
PEC-PV prototype module enters final demonstration phase
The PECDEMO consortium is pleased to announce the start of the field test of the developed hybrid photoelectrochemical-photovoltaic (PEC-PV) tandem device for hydrogen generation via light-driven water splitting. It hosts four photoelectrodes with an active surface area of 50 cm2 each. PV-cells also manufactured within the consortium are located behind. There, they utilise the photons which penetrate the photoelectrodes and supply bias voltage for the water splitting reactions. The prototype module has been mounted in the focal plane of the DLR test facility SoCRatus in Cologne (Germany), where homogeneously concentrated solar irradiation is provided with a maximum concentration ratio of about 17.5. The performance and stability tests will last until the end of the project in March 2017. They will allow a detailed assessment of the capability of the PEC-PV prototype to convert solar light into the chemical energy vector hydrogen, particularly in terms of efficiency and ageing effects.
